Creating a Safe and Secure Environment For Your Staff

Sky News recently reported that 76 NHS trusts said they have had over 72,000 reports of assault over four years. Alarmingly, with only half the NHS Trusts in England and Wales responding to the survey, the actual number is thought to likely be much higher; potentially as many as double this figure.

What’s more, according to The Care Workers’ Charity, one health and social care worker is attacked every 30 minutes, so it’s clear that workers must be protected with Staff Attack Alarm Systems.

Every public and private sector care organisation has a responsibility to protect its staff from potential threats of violence. The threat of a Care Home Staff Attack or Mental Care Staff Attack is heightened as patients may be vulnerable, confused, and unpredictable.

The Demand for Healthcare Professionals Has Never Been Higher

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the fact that a well-equipped healthcare workforce is vital – and has resulted in a pressing demand for highly skilled healthcare professionals.

Post COVID-19, the mental health service has never been so stretched.  Research conducted by MIND found around a third of adults and young people said their mental health had gotten much worse since March 2020. The study also found:

  • People who were more likely to struggle with their mental health before the pandemic have experienced the greatest impact. They report an increase in the severity of challenges they’re facing now and concerns about the future, and urgently need tailored support.
  • 88% of young people said loneliness made their mental health worse during the pandemic.

The UK’s current care home skills shortage can be attributed to various factors including:

  • Population growth
  • Longer life expectancy
  • The prevalence of chronic illnesses

As the UK population grows, there is an ever-increasing need for medical care, preventative services, and health education. What’s more, the progressions in medical technology and improved disease management are contributing to longer lifespans.  The unique needs of the ageing population has led to a greater prevalence of age-related ailments and complex chronic conditions.

Highly sought after and in short supply, trained mental health staff and care home staff are a valuable asset to any healthcare organisation, and are most at risk from threats of violence.

So, who can your organisation trust to protect your most at risk, and most sought after, healthcare professionals?

Providing a Safe And Secure Working Environment

Johnson Controls are a trusted partners of ZETTLER Staff Attack Systems.  These systems help healthcare managers ensure safer environments for their staff, having been successfully installed in a wide variety of sectors. From emergency departments to mental health sites, care homes, and other facilities where there is risk to healthcare professionals, such as a Mental Care Staff Attack and Care Home Staff Attack.

Staff Attack and Distress Alarm System Specialists

Staff Attack alarms can be raised using fixed-point panic buttons in key locations – and for staff on the move, a panic alarm system can be raised using portable transmitter units.

For peace of mind in an emergency situation, Johnson Controls unique Zetsafe emergency call technology is based on circuits that are divided into independent segments, so any rule exceptions to normal operation will be immediately detected and will only affect the panic alarm system locally. Zetsafe emergency call technology provides a backup communications path to help maintain system functionality.

Our heavy duty, vandal resistant Alarm Push Buttons will raise an ‘assistance’ call along with the location of the incident. In the event of a care home staff attack or mental care staff attack, healthcare professionals simply press the large red button and can be assured of a swift response.

Nurse Call Systems play a vital role in Care Homes and Mental Health Settings. When every second can make a difference, Nurse Call Systems not only need to be fast and accurate, but they also need to be 100% reliable. Both care givers and patients can easily and quickly generate and react to alerts, thereby keeping everyone safe and informed.

Johnson Controls understand these needs well and have used its wealth of experience in the sector to design a range of solutions that cater for this critical area of patient care.

Staff Attack Alarm Unit

Our fully integrated, unobtrusive, portable infra-red transmitter units have been carefully designed to be lightweight and robust. Created to suit the curvature of the hand, they have large, bright, tactile buttons to facilitate easy operation.

The 'double push' operation panic switches comply with police response requirements enabling emergency services to respond to serious situations.

When tugged away from the holder to raise an 'attack' alert, the device does not detach from the unit completely, but remains with the person for added safety.

The trigger unit initiates a reassurance signal when the transmitter’s test facility button is pressed, and battery strength is recorded. Triggers can be recharged with a charger unit when necessary.

Our range of triggers work in conjunction with ceiling-mounted infrared receivers, providing excellent reception capabilities, and can be installed into almost all healthcare environments. An integral light on each receiver quickly and easily identifies receivers that have been activated by an alarm call.

Fixed-point panic buttons can be added too – and where police response is required, a ‘double push’ can be used.

A vital log of events can be kept to archive activity. When used with PC graphic displays and with the portable transmitters in attack mode, ‘tracking’ is enabled.

Staff Attack Alarm With Real-time Location Options

Real Time Location Tagging Systems are ideal for healthcare environments; these lightweight, portable units allow staff to be tagged and tracked, transmitting their location in real time to the ceiling receivers, with an integrated staff attack button also included.

Badges can be affixed to clothing and clients’ existing ID tags can be attached to the outside of the unit. A simple ergonomically designed button can be pressed to summon assistance.

By utilising small, lightweight tags affixed to assets, the location of equipment is constantly updated in real time. This information can be displayed on a PC with our software. Assets, colleagues, and even visitors can all be viewed and located in real time.

The receivers are available in two types – a short range infrared for accurate positioning and a longer-range unit for more general supervision.
