Hounslow Council Decarbonisation Case Study
Johnson Controls partnered with Hounslow Council in West London to complete an ambitious project to decarbonise 61 schools and public buildings throughout the borough. Before this project, Hounslow's schools were responsible for 67% of the Council’s carbon footprint with outdated infrastructure across schools and other public buildings posing serious net zero concerns.
Johnson Controls implemented decarbonisation measures through 61 properties, including schools, leisure centres, and corporate buildings. Gas boilers were replaced with air source heat pumps wherever possible, solar panels were installed and LED lighting solutions put in place.
As a result of the project, carbon emissions across Hounslow’s schools and public buildings dropped by 50%, resulting in a 50% reduction in energy costs, with on-site solar energy production and the use of LED lighting being used to offset the increase in electricity use. To date, Hounslow has achieved energy savings of over 17 million kWh across its corporate and school sites, equating to over 3,000 tonnes of carbon.
