The MZX Infra-Red Flame detector range offers unrivalled performance where hydrocarbon based fires exists. As IR detection is less susceptible to radiation inhibitors than UV, the MZX detecors are able to detect flame through oil mist, smoke and vapour, all of which can be commonly associated with fires involving fuels. They MZX devices are also less prone to false alarms from background radiation sources.

Infra red (IR) sensors are tuned to a bandwidth associated with the radiation emitted from carbon dioxide which emitted during hydrocarbon fires. Single channel detectors are set to a fixed frequency that rely on flame flicker to trigger, whereas triple channel detectors can monitor frequencies above and below the fire threshold, thereby filtering background radiation from non-fire sources. Array based IR detectors use a total of 256 sensors which makes them sensitive yet extremely stable. The array can be configured to ignore hot spots such as exhausts, flues and flame stacks. The detector is IEC61508, (SIL2) approved in addition to a wide variety of additional approvals.

Some of our Flame Detectors incorporate a video camera within the same housing which provides real-time images of the incident.
