Working together to safeguard children
Installing the HALO Smart Sensor can help demonstrate to OFSTED (The Office for Standards in Education Children’s Services and Skills in the UK) that your school is taking additional measures to maximise the safeguarding of all students by providing safe bathroom and changing areas. OFSTED views vaping in schools as a behavioural issue which, when combined with other factors such as truancy and fighting, can sometimes lead to schools being rated as 'inadequate'.
It is important to note that while OFSTED reports on behaviour related to vaping, the guidance for schools on how to handle vaping is provided by other organisations such as Action on Smoking and Health (ASH). ASH has released national guidance for schools to support staff in developing policies around vaping, emphasising that vaping is not for children and that schools should adopt a whole-school approach to address both smoking and vaping.
Vape detection systems such as HALO can be used in conjunction with education within schools to highlight the risks of vaping in order to combat the habit within educational establishments. Whilst the rapid uptake of the habit may have slowed, ASH report that as of July 2024, 7.2% of 11-17 year olds still vape regularly.

Keeping Students Safe
